🧬 Tone & voice

What’s the difference between voice & tone? You have the same voice all the time, but your tone changes. You might use a different tone when meeting with your boss, and a different tone when you are angry at your sibling.
Your tone changes based on the emotional state of the person you’re addressing. You wouldn’t want to use the same tone with someone who’s upset as you would with someone who’s happy.
This also applies to ZAP-Hosting. Our voice doesn’t change much from day to day, but our tone changes all the time.

📋 Guidelines

Our audience:

  • Primary: Gamers, hobbyist server hosts, and streamers (aged 16–35).
  • Secondary: Developers, content creators, game communities.
  • Expectations: Speed, reliability, low jargon, personality, and helpfulness.

Voice checklist:

Before publishing any message, ask:

  • Is it clear and helpful?

  • Does it sound like a human, not a bot?

  • Does it align with ZAP’s confident, casual tone?

  • Would our core user nod and smile—or be confused?

🧪 Do’s and Dont’s

✅ Do:

  • Use gamer-relevant metaphors and phrasing: “Launch your world,” “Level up your server.”

  • Break down jargon: “DDoS protection = Anti-server attacks.”

  • Write in active voice: “We’ve got your back.”

  • Use contractions: “We’re,” “You’ll,” “Let’s”

❌ Don’t:

  • Sound robotic: “Your request has been received and will be processed shortly.”

  • Use excessive tech lingo: “Your virtual environment’s CPU provisioning is complete.”

  • Appear indifferent: Avoid copy-paste error responses.

🧭 Our signature style: “ZAP’s Edge”

ZAP-Hosting is more than reliable hosting—it’s an ally in your digital adventures. Our voice should reflect our personality:

  • Confident, with a cheeky wink (“We build faster than creepers blow up bases.”).

  • Human-centered tech (“Built by gamers, for gamers.”).

  • Lightly humorous where fitting.

🌐 Language & Localization

  • Ensure translations keep tone, not just words.

  • German should match the confidence and friendliness of the English version, not become more formal.

  • Slang and idioms should feel native—don’t overuse or mistranslate.
